From Alan Brewster Chair of Governors - South Tyneside College
"The College has had a very difficult two years, but I am confident that we are now beginning to make real progress. Our Recovery Plan is in place and agreed and has the backing of not only my colleagues in the College, but also that of the LSC and our other partners.
We have welcomed the support and advice given to us by MCA Cooper Associates. Their help throughout the recovery process was invaluable and their experience of helping other colleges in a similar position enabled us to solve our problems more quickly than would otherwise have been possible."
From Alan Williams Chair of Governors - Royal Forest of Dean College
"We have re-examined our College in significant and minute detail. No stone was left unturned. Everyone played their part and many hours were given over to the task, but the hard work is now beginning to pay off.
I should particularly like to thank the MCA Cooper Associates team who gave us advice, guidance and support throughout. Their intimate knowledge of the sector and of recovery situations took much of the hard work out of the process. It was extremely helpful to work with people who had direct experience of other colleges in our predicament and were able to reassure us that we were not alone. They had already encountered many of the issues we had to address. In many cases, therefore they were able to provide a short cut to a solution. This saved much time."
From David Neville Deputy Principal (Acting Principal) - Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College
"When our College was placed into recovery by the Learning and Skills Council in August 2005, we selected MCA Cooper Associates from an open tendering process to assist a newly formed senior management team in drafting a Recovery Plan.
The level of expertise and advice from Cooper Associates consultants in helping other managers both academic and business support managers from across the college to examine, review and revise our curriculum mix and business processes was highly effective. Non-financial managers were sympathetically helped to understand the consequences of their planning processes. We felt that the consultants were part of our team and were not outsiders flying over our college telling how us how things should be but rather they moved us forward from working within our team.
The support available and insight which they brought to the Recovery Team Group in working to address the LSC 'agenda' was invaluable. The College produced a Recovery Plan and a Prospectus for merger guided by Cooper Associates and now stands on the brink of an exciting merger to secure FE provision which will fully serve our local communities in West Lancashire."
