MCA Cooper Associates Efficiency Review of Belfast Metropolitan College is Published by the Department for Employment and Learning in Northern Ireland

Employment and Learning Minister, Sir Reg Empey, commented on the final report and said: “This report will help provide the stability that Belfast Metropolitan College needs to allow it to continue to deliver high quality skills training to young people in the Greater Belfast area and beyond"

2009 AOC conference

MCA in discussion with Banks and the LSC over recovery and capital funding for the sector

The FE sector faces a very difficult future when it comes to commissioning new build projects, the problems with funding which emerged during 2009 combined with the UK recession and the banking crisis all make it very difficult for a college to contemplate initiating any substantial project. We have also recognised that with the scarcity of funds there is a potential problem relating to money which the LSC would have normally provided to colleges in financial difficulty.

However MCA Coopers does not feel that colleges should completely abandon any thoughts of developing its estate as we feel there may be options available which the sector may find it advantageous to explore.

Alternative finance also needs to be found for Recovery and Improvement plans and MCA Coopers have been exploring with the major banks and other providers of finance, possible ways forward to provide assistance for colleges seeking finance for their plans

MCA Coopers’ extensive commercial experience is being used to find a more commercial, flexible and user-friendly approach to the provision of finance for colleges which could benefit reorganization scenarios like Recovery and Improvement Plans and perhaps small capital projects as well.

MCA passes milestone in its rapid growth throughout the FE sector

Malcolm Cooper MCA's Managing Director says he is delighted to report that MCA recently passed a milestone in its continuing success story when a recent client became the 50th College with which MCA had carried out a major project. He added that in addition he was able to include the LSC at both National and Regional level and DEL in Northern Ireland as clients

He said that he felt that MCA were unique in the sector because all of the Associates have held senior positions in Colleges and are able to offer very practical skills when delivering our full range of consultancy services to our clients. When Colleges are looking to improve their performance or may be are considering an Improvement Plan or require merger advice we can utilise these skills to benefit our clients.
