New Accountability Proposed for Providers to demonstrate that their Curriculum meets Local Skills

The Skills for Jobs White Paper published in January 2021 sets out the DFE’s proposal to hold Governing Bodies accountable for the content of their curriculum and its alignment with local skills needs.

A consultation is currently underway on this new accountability which may become part of the Ofsted inspection process and may become a new trigger for an Ofsted inspection. A review could potentially inform a proposal for the new Strategic Development Fund as set out in the White Paper.

The proposal sets the accountability firmly with a provider’s strategic leadership (governing body/trustees/local authority) and requires that a curriculum review is undertaken every three years and the results are published on the provider’s website.

A curriculum review can be complex and onerous to complete and the changes that follow a review inevitably take some time to fully implement. The team at MCA have a wealth of experience in delivering effective curriculum reviews that enable Colleges to:

  • Review how effectively their curriculum meets the vision and objectives of the College
  • Assess their College-wide offering collectively, by year and by subject
  • Identify key strengths of the curriculum
  • Identify challenges of the curriculum and potential remedies
  • Work with the wider team in agreeing the implementation of amendments

“I have known Malcolm for a number of years during which time I have had experience of how MCA work. Malcolm has led various MCA projects for us. They adopt a very user-friendly approach and demonstrate their many years’ of FE experience which enables them to get right to the heart of the matter very quickly. I am happy to recommend them without hesitation.”
